Mandera equips firefighters with advanced skills in emergency preparedness

In a decisive step to strengthen emergency response and public safety, Mandera Municipality has completed a three-day capacity-building training for its fire and rescue department at the Mandera Fire Station.
The programme, led by Municipal Manager Matker Noor and Principal Fire and Disaster Management Officer Suleiman Adan, was facilitated by emergency response expert Amos Chiwo Odhiambo from Fire International Extractors.

The interactive sessions, guided by the Head of Fire Service, ensured participants gained practical knowledge directly applicable in the field.
“This initiative is part of our long-term commitment to building a responsive and professional Municipal workforce that can adequately protect lives and property,” said Matker Noor.
The training comes as the region steps up efforts to strengthen disaster preparedness. The addition of advanced tactics such as rope rescues and SCBA operations highlights a shift toward adopting global best practices in firefighting and emergency response.
Suleiman Adan noted that continuous training and capacity-building will be essential to improving safety infrastructure across the county.
This achievement marks yet another milestone in Mandera County’s investment in human capital and institutional readiness to tackle today’s complex emergency challenges.
